Introduction

I have been keeping tropical fish for many years and have had many distinct sorts. I presently have a 75-gallon freshwater aquarium with many species of fish. I find that these two, the Kissing Gourami and the Tiger Barb, make excellent pets.

These are superb fish that can be quite private with you. I have three that I have had for many years. They are pink in color and are referred to as Kissing Gourami simply because they are consistently puckering their lips and at occasions will seem to be kissing every single other. But this action is really an aggressive action toward other Kissing Gourami.

• Feeding – They consume fish flakes, algae tablets and nibble on my reside plants. When I feed them fish flakes I occasionally feed them by hand, which is fairly neat. They come to the surface and will take a flake from your hand.When I feed them tablets, I just let them sink and the Kissing Gourami will stick to them down to the bottom nibbling at it as it settles to the bottom.

• Greeting – It took several weeks for them to get use to their new residence. But when they got use to their new property they got fairly friendly with me. When I walk in my office they come to the side of the aquarium and greet me. Sometimes I think they just want food considering that they recognize me as their food source.

These fish come from Southeast Asia and are utilized as a food source for the people who live there. They can grow up to 12 inches in length when they live in the wild, but when they are kept in an aquarium, they will develop to an common length of five inches.

Tiger Barbs

These are lovely fish which are gold in color with black stripes. These are schooling fish so you will want at least six. Something much less than six will make them anti-social and they will develop personality and health problems.

• Feeding – These also consume fish flakes but I cannot hand feed these simply because they like to snatch their food and they are quickly. But I like to watch them attack frozen bloodworms that I drop as a cube in the water. They will rapidly attack and rip off the worms till all the bloodworms are gone.

• Greeting – Like the Kissing Gourami, all seven come to the side of the aquarium and greet me when I enter my workplace.

Like the Kissing Gourami, they too come from Southeast Asia. They grow to about 3 inches in length.
